Learn how to play Hawaiian slack key guitar or ukulele just like Moon
did from his Uncle Jonah; by jamming on the back lanai. Moon's
method of teaching will help you understand, hear, and feel the music.
No prior experience necessary. All you need is a desire to learn and
an instrument. Students are encouraged to record their sessions for
more practice later. Students of any age are welcome.
Sessions can be combined for visiting students to speed up the
learning process. Imagine returning home and playing a Hawaiian
song for your family!
Testimonials From Moon's Students

"Tonight at our church fund raiser for summer
camp programs, my son Jason will be playing a
medley that he just put together based on what
you had taught him about combining ukulele
techniques." --from Jaime F., California Visitor
"My lessons with Moon were invaluable in helping me to understand the
basics of ‘ukulele and to learn the value of scales when finger picking solo
runs. Beyond that, and most importantly, Moon taught me how to play
‘ukulele with Aloha. You can’t get that from a book.” --Paul Stockford,
Arizona
"Moon's teaching style made playing the Ukulele seem easy and
attainable in a short period of time. He's so knowledgeable- but most
importantly, he teaches to play from the heart." --Malia Mathis, Oahu

"Moon is a very talented musician. I feel
his style of teaching is very unique and
simple to grasp. The way he teaches
the ukulele just "makes sense". Moon
brings a passion for the instrument that
he passes on to his students. I really
enjoy the one-on-one attention of his
lessons. He is very patient and
understanding throughout the entire
learning process. My ukulele skills have
improved dramatically since meeting
with him. " --Kauwila Lopes, Oahu
"If you want to learn to play the ukulele, and are willing to invest some effort into it, Moon Kahele can teach anyone. I should know - I'm living proof. When we got together for my first lesson, I was so bad that Moon began the session with a prayer (the first of many). Within a few weeks, thanks to Moon's patience and perseverance (as well some practice on my part), I was no longer terrible. Before long, I was actually pretty good, and even performed a couple times in public with Moon.
Prior to meeting Moon, I had virtually no musical skill or knowledge. Now, I am not only a reasonably proficient ukulele player, I even possess a working knowledge of music theory - keys, chords, notes, scales - all of that.
You could learn the uke, I suppose, through books or videos or the Internet. But if you really want to learn Hawaiian ukulele (or slack key guitar), Moon Kahele is a unique resource. He can teach you not only the techniques, but also the aloha. Sadly, native Hawaiian musicians of Moon's caliber are growing scarce. If you want the best in ukulele instruction, he's the man." --Andrew Clemency, Phoenix, Arizona
